Quick Facebook Group Update (KU Groups)
Recapping the first day of my KU Facebook group experiment that I posted about yesterday, I'm here to report that it might not be a workable project.
Luckily for me, I decided to start by joining only ten groups, or trying to join ten groups. Not one of them went smoothly, or if any did, that's very unclear to me.
I logged onto my author page today and checked my notifications. 80% of the groups had required admin approval to join, which I fully understand. And all of them have now approved me.
With a couple of groups, I didn't think I needed approval, because I was allowed to post yesterday and was only notified after the fact that my posts were awaiting approval. This turned out to be confusing today. I was notified that my membership was approved, which I'd assumed was automatic, so I had to scroll the groups' pages to see if my posts from the day before were there. For one group, yes; for the other, no. This is a stupid use of my time, and confusing.
Secondly, Facebook really needs the option to delete notifications. Clearly, every notification I've ever gotten since the day I created my author page will remain forever. Why? These KU groups all have similar names, which makes it easy to lose one's place when scanning notifications. Once I read them, I want them gone!
Now, with all ten groups (except for the outlier that let my initial post slip through), my posts need approval. So, I need approval to join a group, and once that's bestowed, I type up a post, hit publish, and now that needs approval, too.
Will anything ever be published? Or am I in an endless loop of approval hell?
(And I'm getting really tired of typing the word "approval".)
You know, group admins, this isn't like joining the CIA. The future of the world doesn't rest on whether an everyday person can join a Facebook group, or heaven forbid, post something.
So, there is no point checking my KU report, not today. Maybe not tomorrow. I'm now hesitant to even try joining more groups. A process such as this should be simple:
1. Need approval to join a group? Fine; no problem. But don't open up posting to a person until they're approved.
2. Zuckerberg, let people delete their notifications! For God's sake, man. If that's too hard, let us opt in to receive email alerts instead. As least emails are deletable.
As always, let me know if I'm just a dumbass and there's any easier way to do this.
