More Free Book Promotion Ideas (Yes, Facebook)
I'm likely the only indie author who was ignorant of Facebook groups. Not completely ignorant, but the one time I tried joining groups to promote my novel, I only focused on marketing my book for sale, not for Kindle Unlimited reads.
But now that the majority of my royalties are derived from KU reads, and since I'm no longer paying for marketing, I finally looked into Facebook KU groups.
The good news is, there are a ton of them. I don't know what the bad news is, or if there even is any bad news, but I'm just getting started, so the bad news could well be that this venture, too, will be an utter failure.
Nevertheless, it's free!
If you're a regular reader of this blog, you know that I strongly dislike Facebook. I don't use it in my personal life and I rarely visit my author page. But I'm constantly told that millions or billions of people continue to use it, so I guess an author would be a fool not to check it out.
If, like me, you don't know a whit about Facebook, to find groups you're interested in, just go here and choose the instructions for your device of choice. Once you land on the page with the Groups option and click on it, there is a search function. I input "Kindle Unlimited" and was presented with a long list of related or semi-related groups. Actually, the sheer number of results was kind of daunting.
I haven't completely perused the results yet, but I did notice that there are at least a few genre-specific groups. Barring any for my genre, I first concentrated on the groups with the largest membership. My intention is to join maybe ten groups each time I think of it, because otherwise it's too unwieldy. Of course, "member" doesn't necessarily equal "active member", but that's like my author newsletter; "reader" doesn't mean "actual reader".
What I found with that first group of ten was that I either had to await approval to join or if I was able to join and post, my post didn't publish right away (again, it needed approval). I completely understand the reasons for caution (stupid spamsters), but it's still frustrating, when I'm eager to find out if joining these groups will reap any reward. And to be honest, I don't want to go through a bunch of work for naught. (I do realize there are lots of harder jobs than this.) 😀
Since I have to open a different browser to get to my FB page---otherwise it defaults to my personal page---I'll try to remember to join more groups at least once a week and report back.
So, time will tell. If you've ever utilized any FB groups to land buyers/readers, let me know how that went. Something that's free has to work for a change, right?
