Not Dead Yet (Just Almost Dead)
The last time I had any KU pages read for Running From Herself was April 5; a whole 42 pages. I'm choosing to believe that this person was just finishing the book, rather than tossing it aside. (Hmm, wonder what happens on page 42.)
But guess what! Someone read 12 pages yesterday! Scoff if you will, but I went the entire month of May without one single purchase and zero page reads.
I'm certainly not running any promos and I haven't done a price reduction, so what convinced someone to choose my book? Was it my new keywords? My one new category (women's fiction, psychological)? The new blurb? I would love to think that all that work actually amounted to something. My current "something" is six cents in royalties.
On a separate note, I heard back from my local library. The woman made absolutely no promises. She said, "Hi April! Thanks for reaching out to us. Our cataloging department is currently looking into ways they can add Indie Minnesota item records into our catalog."
Oh.
Hey, it was a response at least. More than I received from Wyoming and Nashville. And I struggled creating a stupid one-sheet for them, as opposed to the little text box message I sent to my local library.
Third note: My Storygraph promotion goes live tomorrow. Can't wait to give away those 100 copies! 😏 Get one while you can!
And that "book of the day" email I received from eReader News Today that I groused about here? I applied. F 'em! I'm not about to be intimidated by their supercilious attitude.
The older I get, the less I give a damn. My husband cautioned me yesterday about my chat with Amazon customer service. "You don't want to alienate them." What? Are they going to hop a flight from New Delhi and reprimand me? The fact is, I'm never rude, but I make clear what my expectations are. I think that comes from decades of working in corporate management. Begging people just gives them license to walk all over you. And really, people want to know what you expect from them, not be forced to play a guessing game.
So, while I can't say things are looking up, at least there's movement. 🐢 (That's supposed to be a turtle.)
To summarize:
- Someone read 12 pages of my novel. (Hmm, wonder what happens on page 12. Maybe they're just a slow reader.)
- I got a non-committal from my local library system.
- Those Storygraph reviews are going to start pouring in. 🤣
- I'm now the bane of eReader News Today's existence--having to write that rejection email and all.
I'm an imaginary hit, people!
