What's it about, you ask?
Well, Leah Branch is a washed-up local band singer whose band of ten years dissolves in a wild display of anger and resentment---all while onstage. A fitting end to a career that's imploded.
Practically penniless, Leah needs a new start, so she takes to the road with no destination in mind and finds herself in the tiny town of Chance, Wyoming. Inexplicably, she falls in love with the town and decides to stay. Though she lacks any real-world skills, she manages to find a job as a server in the local saloon. Between the good friends she makes and the modicum of self-worth the job brings her, Leah is content. She even falls in love--with the lead singer of the saloon's house band.
That's when everything falls apart. She's chosen to be known as Leah Branch, person; not Leah Branch, singer, and thus she hides her past from everyone. Until it's discovered and her new love, Jared, brands her a liar.
When Jared's long-term plan to quit the business finally comes to fruition, the saloon's fortunes take a nose dive. The owner begins laying off personnel, until Leah takes a deep breath and offers to take Jared's place on stage.
And that's where she's discovered by a vacationing record label exec. She should be excited that her dream is finally coming true, but it's her heartache that leads her to accept. She can't bear being in the same town as Jared anymore.
Nashville turns out to be far from the dream Leah had always imagined. The music is secondary; image is all that matters. The label proceeds to turn her into someone she's not, even going as far as changing her name. If not for the quirky characters she meets along the way, her new life would be unbearable.
But despite her newfound friends, Leah can't help but despise this new "Layah Branch". Leah has run before. She's about to do it again.
Okay, lots of detail, but I haven't given away the many surprises. Get the book if for no other reason than to meet superstar Paula Barnes, who one reviewer has labeled "a hoot".
You'll like it. I promise.
