I'm Proud of My Series
My "My Career" series began as a blog post on my music blog. At the time I published it, blogs were still popular and discoverable, but those days are gone. My followers left comments and some of them remarked how relatable it was. Everyone's got war stories from their worklife, and it's fun to commiserate.
When I decided to republish it here, I took a look and realized that while I originally wrote it with passion, my writing skills have since evolved a lot. Still, I didn't revise all that much. When in doubt, go with passion, I say. (I did notice that I was very big on commas!) Having published it 14 years ago, I'd forgotten a lot of the details, so re-reading it was a valuable refresher.
Now I have no followers and thus, very few views. I've even learned how to create custom permalinks and still nothing.
That's okay. Maybe the Chinese bots will scrape it and come up with a great AI novel.
Secretly, I sort of wish that certain people might stumble upon it, but since I was very careful to not name the company and I only used first names (aside from the innocents whose names I changed), even those who are wistful for their old career days won't find it. That's too bad. Even after all these years, I still crave closure. But those days will forever remain encased in amber. (Maybe I should go back and add a couple of relevant keywords to drive discovery.) 😉
But honestly, all of it happened so long ago, it would be like reading a written account of someone buying their first Ford Model T.
Readers or no readers, I'm still proud of the series and I have no regrets for publishing it here. Even if no one else remembers, I do, and it's a valuable memory to preserve. For many, many reasons.
