My Week in Review - A Little Bit of Not Much
My week contained a few little things, but nothing big enough to write a whole post about, so here we are.
I got a newsletter follower.
Sure, scoff if you will, but this is only my second organic follower. (I'm great!) I have no idea how this happened, nor why. I long ago stopped putting a newsletter signup in the back matter of my books, because a) no one ever subscribed; and b) I hate newsletters. My website contains the requisite signup page and a reader magnet, but as far as I knew, only Chinese bots and scammers ever visit my website.
Take this blog, for example. My analytics page shows 2.9K active users, of which 1.1K are located in China. Sixty-five are in the US, but those people (if they're people) likely mistyped a website address and found themselves confounded by the content here. On the other hand, my author site "boasts" 58 active users, who spend an average of sixteen seconds visiting. None of those visitors are located in the US or any English-speaking country.
But regardless, I'll send out a welcome and the free reader magnet. Hopefully, they won't hold their breath waiting for the next newsletter. There will be no "next" newsletter.
My magazine article was finally published.
I've already blogged about that and I'm bored now, but you can read about it here if you're interested.
My boosted Facebook post was a complete bust, and expensive.
I sold three copies of my novel in a week. Curious if any author has ever done worse than that or if I'm still the champ. I'm crossing my fingers on my record holding up.
I did manage to get 1,046 Kindle Unlimited pages read, which is not nothing. That's like five dollars in royalties, man! Somebody even read 101 pages of The Diner Girl, which is only 79 pages long, so more like one and another third of a person read it. Whispers in the Dark (an odd choice for someone) did pitifully---15 pages read, but I can't really say I blame the person. That novella's not going to win me any awards.
Honestly, the only time I pull up my KDP report is when I'm running a promotion (this is the final one); otherwise, it doesn't actually matter. Much like my analytics report.
I dipped a toe, or an ear, back into music.
That was fun. I listened for 30 minutes a day for two days. I'm not quitting; just taking today off. It also provided fodder for my music blog, which has been woefully neglected.
And there you have it.
I promise to try to do better next week.
