Lost Days
I'm beginning to believe that smoking is the only thing that's kept me cognizant. Yes, I'm trying to stop smoking. My brain is muddled; I can't seem to focus. I've tried to stop smoking before---many times, so I know the drill. All the methods a person is advised to use don't work. It's akin to book marketing. 😉
Yesterday's post about the new partnership between D2D and Bookshop reads as dry as dirt. It has as much personality as a toaster manual. Not that the topic itself is scintillating, but generally, I do try to add a little "pep" to my writing.
I'm no medical expert, but I believe the cure for ADHD is to start smoking. This would pose a problem for little kids, I suppose, given the "societal norms", but really, would you prefer that your kid got an A or B or even a C in science or an incomplete? So, fire up, kids!
A podcast I watch every day is suddenly too damn long. I can't even watch it all the way through. Not only long, but uninteresting, even though it involves an unsolved crime, which is normally right up my alley. Plus, I'm impatient with the whole speculative nature of it. The answer is right before your eyes, people! Idiots.
Aware that I was falling behind in...whatever it is I'm supposed to be doing...oh, yea, answering my memorygram questions, I went back into a response I started last week, but now I ended up going down a rabbit hole, searching for a business that hasn't existed in decades. This ate up maybe an hour. Anyone who says that anything can be found online is a crackpot. Google's AI directed me toward a Facebook group that it claimed discussed memories of the particular town I needed; however, the group is based in New Jersey, almost 2,000 miles away, so perhaps Google is trying to quit smoking, too, and is finding concentration difficult.
By the time I managed to refocus, I'd completely lost interest. Worse, when trying to proofread what I'd already written, I suspected it was pure gibberish. (Still don't know for sure.)
I do have a couple of publishing-related tasks I could be cleaning up, but one of them involves uploading to an unfamiliar site, and I'm afraid my hair-trigger temper might well explode. So, I think I'm going to take a nap instead.
As things stand, I've been sort of writing this post for about four hours, which mostly involved staring at my screen.
Things will surely improve in days to come. Won't they? So, unless something world shattering happens in my publishing universe, I think I'll be taking a couple of days off.
