I'm Number One!
I had to copy this before I blinked, because that's how long this ranking will last:
Best Sellers Rank: #262 Free in Kindle Store (See Top 100 in Kindle Store)
#1 in Coming of Age Fiction (Kindle Store)
#3 in Contemporary American Fiction
#8 in Contemporary Women's Fiction
As of 11:00 p.m., I achieved 636 free downloads of Running From Herself. **Oops! Make that 689 now!** That's not a record, but I'll take it. For this being the third time I've run a FreeBooksy ad for the novel, I'm not experiencing diminishing returns. My pretty new cover definitely helps.
Do I feel bad about giving away so many copies? Well, what else am I going to do with this book? Obviously, I'd like to sell some, but that was the point of running the ad to begin with. My Amazon ad begins running tomorrow; unfortunately, I couldn't get the timing exactly right--I wanted the novel to show a high ranking as the ad began presenting to people, but I had to work with FreeBooksy's openings. Regardless, it can't drop too far so quickly, right?
FreeBooksy was a one-day ad (two days would have cost $120!), but my Free Kindle Promotion is still active today, so I'm being a little marketing bitch and promoting it on Instagram, X, and Facebook to try to keep the good times rolling. I'm suspicious that these social media sites are driving many (any?) free book grabbers, but it costs me nothing to try.
To be clear, free downloads don't translate to reads or naturally, to reviews. I knew that going in. I don't care. I care about the ranking. If I was flush with cash and still a gambler, I'd be tempted to try another Facebook ad to go along with the Amazon one, but I've learned some hard lessons about spending money to make money. I can no longer afford to gamble on a "maybe" proposition. No, it's Amazon or nothing.
I might be downcast tomorrow, but right at this moment, I feel pretty good.
