My Novel is Spanning the Globe
Even though I have Google alerts set up for my novel, I decided to take a quick stroll through its results yesterday, and starting with the third page, I began finding my book in some unusual places.
The first was a site called Waterstones. Waterstones is UK-based, and I was perplexed until I realized that they only carry my paperback version, and...oh! It's driven by the ISBN number!
My assumption was that since KDP automatically assigned the ISBN, the book basically only lived on Amazon. And while I did make a change to expanded distribution about four weeks ago, my book's been on Waterstones and other sites longer than that.
From Google:
"Your book was likely added to Nielsen BookData as a result of registering your ISBN with the UK ISBN Agency, which is managed by Nielsen Book. When you apply for an ISBN, the agency registers your publisher name and ISBN range, automatically including your book's details in their system. This information is then used by various retailers, distributors, and libraries to identify and list your book..."
I'm also in Denmark. At least Saxo has my new cover, but my now-discarded blurb.
Here's New Zealand. Gotta say, $56.00 is a lot to spend on a paperback. I thought $17.36 was stretching things. But thanks, Mighty Ape? Nobody's ever going to buy it at that exorbitant price. Seventeen US dollars converts to only twenty-eight New Zealand dollars, so somebody's looking to make a nice profit. Again, nobody's going to buy it, but I suppose a guy (or ape) has to try.
"Bol." in The Netherlands (yes, the period is on purpose) didn't bother to post my book's cover, plus they're not even charging the US dollar equivalent. What's really strange about this one is that the site also offers three of my other books (one of which is no longer available, another that's gone through a title change, and a third that still has an earlier cover image). These were not published in paperback version! So, what's up with that? They are, however, full novels, not novellas.
Alas, those are all the merchants I found, but I am worldwide! (There's also an April Tompkins, I've learned, who's the CEO of a credit union. I bet she brings home more than seventy cents per month.)
From the looks of these sites, only Waterstones seems to be "high end", and hey! If only they'd show the updated cover, I could possibly make one sale.
By the way, nothing new has popped up recently; thus my dearth of Google alerts. But, boy, if something ever does...
