Still Hanging Around
I'm so used to writing a new post each day that it feels like something is missing from my routine when I don't. But the truth is, I don't have anything to say; at least, nothing interesting. I'm slowly easing away from my writing "career" and looking for new ways to occupy my time. I've decided to get back into crafting and reading, at least in short bursts, and to that end I've ordered a craft kit and downloaded a book about the LA music scene in the sixties. I really don't read fiction, and my tastes are very specific. I would not be the ideal reader of my work.
A sure indication of my writing success is that I'm being contacted by book promo sites via my website contact form. (I'm being sarcastic.) I checked one of the sites out and can't find anything good or bad about it, so I emailed back and asked about its subscriber base. I've been in that kind of mood lately ~ I don't want anyone's services, but I also want them to know I'm not a sucker. I don't need an anvil dropped on my head to know that promo sites don't work; I've got the receipts. I almost got excited when I looked at my sales report today and found an additional purchase. Then I remembered it was me ~ I like to have a copy of each of my books on my Kindle.
I continue to receive a lot of marketing emails, but I delete most of them unread. A nice site, AllAuthor, sends me a new book mockup each week, which I dutifully post on X and Facebook and Instagram. The site never moved any copies of my book, but I appreciate that they do put some effort into their enterprise. Bottom line, I'm not doing any more marketing, but if someone gives me something painless to do, why not?
While I certainly don't impose myself on even people who've signed up for my mailing list, I didn't expect to receive an email ad from an author I not only never signed up for, but have never heard of. When I clicked on "why am I receiving this", I was told that I'd subscribed, which doesn't sound like something I would do. So, maybe one of the promo sites I've dealt with did something underhanded, but I've unsubscribed, so no harm done, I guess. (I hope someone hasn't commandeered my email address.)
So, bottom line, I'm not doing much of anything. I hope to come up with some new topics, though, because I still like blogging.
