Free Book Promotion (Test) Results ~ Day One
Day One of my free book promotion for The Diner Girl produced one download. Yay?
The definition of underachiever in the dictionary shows my picture. At least I can say I've already beaten my previous record of zero downloads for Bad Blood.
I am so far outside the mainstream, I think the blurb for Bad Blood sounds much more interesting than the one for The Diner Girl. Somehow, some way, I'll eventually get one person to read that book.
I suppose it's an interesting experiment to alternate free books and examine why some promotions are more successful than others, but I don't know how to decipher that. Cover maybe? A blurb that reads "lighter" is more enticing than one that's too serious?
Perhaps I'll eventually put each of my books on a free promotion, just for comparative purposes. That would hardly get me anywhere ~ what would I do with the results? In the past I've sporadically run paid ads for Lies and Love, Shadow Song, The Diner Girl, and New Kaitlyn; none of them set the world on fire.
A bit off topic, but there's a person I follow on X who's a financial advisor. I believe I started following her after I heard her being interviewed on a radio show and I liked her approach. (I'm actually not into financial matters, except for paying my bills on time.) She mentioned the other day that her "next" book will be historical fiction (I had no idea she wrote novels), and I thought, hey! She'll get sales of that book simply because she's "known". She could be the greatest novelist in the world for all I know, but it just seems unfair. What if she's the suckiest novelist in the world? You know, finance is a left brain function, whereas creativity is right brained. That explains why I'm so bad at math; I'm right brained.
Bet she doesn't have to fun free Amazon book promotions.
Well, life isn't fair, though, is it? All authors are supposed to rah-rah-rah for others' success. Fuck that. I'll gladly be magnanimous once I get mine.
