Just As I Thought
My free Kindle promotion for Bad Blood has had no takers. I was going to cancel it, but it only runs through today, so there's no point. I do believe that had I reworked the blurb it might have garnered some interest. Too late, at least for this go-around. I'll get to it sometime. Weirdly, it's a good story, but first impressions are the only things that matter, which probably includes the crappy cover.
I regret ever changing my covers. The originals didn't follow the current trend in women's fiction, and thus I changed them in order to fit in. One shouldn't try to fit in. At least I liked the originals; now the more I see of the new ones, the uglier I find them to be. The saddest part of all is, changing them had no effect on sales; none. I'm almost certain I'm going to go back to the old ones.
Speaking of nothing happening, without adding content to my author website, my engagement time is now down again. I'm contemplating adding something to my blog section, although my heart's not in it, and I hate doing things just to "do" them. It would be different if I was jazzed about exploring a specific topic, but I've got nothin'. The best I can come up with is tying my current novel to my past musical life, which is not exactly scintillating, but as I understand it, it doesn't much matter what content one adds; just that they add some (how sad).
If I get really desperate for some action, I might just buy a twenty-dollar ad for one of my books, even though those haven't worked out in the past, either. In fact, thinking back to my BookBub ad for Lies and Love, no one grabbed the book, and it's one of my best. I did have to scroll all the way to the bottom of their newsletter to even find it, though. Was that an editorial decision? Thanks, BookBub.
When I'm not writing, I grow bored and start thinking about things like this; things that don't matter. Trying to move a back catalog is tedious, and there's really no reason to do it. But it feels like a waste having them sit out there on Amazon's shelves collecting dust.
